Heidelberg Castle
It is world-famous and the epitome of German romanticism - Heidelberg Castle.
Heidelberg Castle towers majestically over the Neckar Valley and still enchants visitors from near and far. It used to be the residence of the counts palatine and electors from the House of Wittelsbach, who ruled the Palatinate of the Rhine from here for over 400 years. The palace is a demonstration of their royal status and in its golden age rivaled the splendor of the imperial courts in Vienna and Prague.

Old Bridge Heidelberg
It is made of sandstone from the Neckar valley and was built by Elector Karl Theodor in the 18th century.
It connects the Old Town with the banks of the Neckar at the eastern end of the Neuenheim district. The predecessors of today's Old Bridge were made of wood. As they were repeatedly destroyed by wars and floods, Elector Karl Theodor had a stone bridge built across the river (1786-1788). On the city side, the medieval bridge gate, part of the former city wall, has been preserved.
